I am the last one to claim I have some exceptional depth of life experience that qualifies me to give advice to anyone else. So, I don't. I also don't think I'm some all-knowing genius. I think I'm a bit smarter than the average bear based on my experiences, but nothing particularly special.
What I share with you today is just my own experience with the prospect that my experience may be of benefit to you. I work too much, I stress too much, and I don't have enough fun. I don't think that is unique; I think pretty much every single small business owner is the exact same. So what did I do this week? I bought a foursome to a golf outing to benefit a local non-profit. It will require me to donate some money and spend a full day out of the office playing golf.
I was smart enough to not put a lot of thought into the donation. What happened when I pulled the trigger? I felt great. I felt less stressed, more excited to work, and I had more energy. Someone much brighter than me probably has an endorphin/chemical/psycho- sociological explanation for this, but I don't really care about the why. I only care that I felt really good.
One of the things I tell clients who I think are working too much is to quit work and start goofing off. Not the greatest legal advice I have ever offered, but for the health of you, your non-work life, and your business, it is the best advice I can give.
