Two Critical Automobile Coverages: Under and Uninsured Motorist Coverages

Written by Dan Gallatin | Jan 31, 2018 6:00:00 AM

I consistently have cases where I represent people seriously injured in automobile accidents. Serious cases with major injuries deserve more attention than what personal injury firms give the injured parties. By keeping my personal injury caseload very tailored and minimal I can better devote personal attention to the case.

One commonality I see among many of my personal injury cases is an inadequate limit on the injured party's underinsured and uninsured motorist coverages. These are coverages you have through your own policy to protect you against others who cause you injuries. If the at-fault driver does not carry enough (or any) liability coverage, you have the ability to get compensation from your own insurer through your underinsured or uninsured motorist coverages.

Your first call on this, a call you need to make before you have an accident, is to your insurance agent. Find out what you have for coverage, assess what amount you really feel you would need if something catastrophic were to happen to you and adjust your limits accordingly. Hopefully, you will never need these coverages, but if you do you will be happy you increased your limits.
